Birthday celebration for Gable Court Nursing Home resident.
A woman known for her "gentle presence, quiet determination and warm smile" has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Irene Saitch, known as Rene, marked the milestone at Gable Court Nursing Home in Romford, where she has lived since April 2018.
Born on February 16, 1926, Ms Saitch moved into the home in April 2018 and has since become a respected and much-loved part of the Gable Court community.
Louis Rouxelin, manager at Gable Court Nursing Home, said: "Irene inspires all who have the privilege to know and care for her. Her grace, kindness and quiet strength are felt every day in our home.
"It was a genuine honour to celebrate this remarkable milestone with her family and to welcome Her Worship the mayor Beverley Brewer to share in such an important moment.
"Her presence made the day even more meaningful for Irene and for everyone who cares about her."
A special afternoon celebration was held in the home’s activities lounge, decorated in lavender, pink and cream, with butterfly motifs.
Family members, friends, staff, and guests including mayor Beverley Brewer gathered to mark the occasion.
Ms Saitch’s daughter Elaine attended the event, describing the day as especially meaningful.
During the event, the mayor presented Ms Saitch with a congratulatory card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla, as well as a card from her own office and a commemorative plaque.
The celebration included photographs, live entertainment, a buffet, refreshments, and a celebration cake. Ms Saitch was also presented with a Centenarian Certificate of Honour.
Mr Rouxelin said the home's team felt "privileged" to know and care for Ms Saitch. He added: "Celebrating Irene’s centenary was not only about marking the passing of years, but about recognising a life lived with dignity, compassion and enduring strength."
Staff at Gable Court Nursing Home said the celebration reflected the home’s approach to person-centred care, which honours each resident’s individuality, relationships, and life journey.
